Skin Pigmentation and Melasma

Pigmentation refers to the natural colour of our skin, which is determined by a pigment called melanin. An even distribution of melanin leads to a balanced complexion, while irregular melanin production can result in pigmentation concerns.

What is causing the skin pigmentation

Aging

As we age, our skin's ability to control melanin production decreases, making us more susceptible to pigmentation issues.

Sun Exposure

UV rays from the sun stimulate the production of melanin. Prolonged sun exposure can lead to sunspots, freckles, and overall uneven skin tone.

Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)

Inflammation or injury to the skin, often as a result of acne, can lead to dark spots or patches known as PIH.

Hormonal Changes

Hormonal fluctuations, such as those during pregnancy or while taking birth control pills, can trigger melasma, a specific form of pigmentation characterized by dark patches on the face.

Radiance Restore Laser Pigment Removal

Medical-Grade IPL, Laser Micro Peel and Skin Peels available at St Leonards Laser and Skin, as highly effective and safe treatments for addressing pigmentation concerns. Using advanced laser technology and peeling products to target excess melanin, breaking down pigmented areas and promoting even skin tone.

How it works?

During the laser procedure, Laser technology emits focused light pulses, which melanin absorbs in the pigmented areas. This energy converts into heat, causing the targeted melanin to fragment.

Following treatment, you may experience some mild redness or darkening of the pigmented areas, which typically subsides within a few days. Over the following weeks, the pigmented spots gradually fade, revealing clearer, more radiant skin.

Depending on the skin type and the pigmentation type we may also use medical grade Peels to help treat unwanted pigmentation along with the Laser treatments.
